About US

Who we are

THE OFFICE OF NWANKWO SCOTT ASSOCIATES (NSA) was opened in Enugu in 1972. In 1976 a branch office was opened in Maiduguri to deal with projects in the North Eastern States of Nigeria. Further branches of the firm were later established in Lagos, Yola, Kano and Owerri, the latter to serve projects in Imo, Abia, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. A further branch office is now functional at Abuja, the new Federal Capital of Nigeria. The firm of NWANKWO SCOTT ASSOCIATES was associated with KENNETH SCOTT ASSOCIATES of Ghana and UK and Renton Howard Wood Levin Design (International) Partnership – both of which are practices of international repute in Architecture, Town Planning, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture.

For several large projects for the Federal and State Governments. Corporation and Parastatals, Nwankwo Scott Associates have provided a consortium of professional practices, so that the client has the opportunity of dealing with one professional unit for a project, in place of the separate appointment of various and differing professional groups. The advantages of this to the client are many and are outlined elsewhere in this brochure.

Our Approach To Practice

Philosophy

WE BELIEVE that our job as designers is to shape the environment meaningfully for every facet of human activity. To be successful at this, our design solutions must derive logically from a thorough understanding of the social, climatic, economic, political, historical, and technological factors of our time and “environment”. It is against the background of these competing factors that posterity will judge our success or failure in environmental design efforts.

Our task in the Nigerian setting increases in complexity and scope year after year. This notwithstanding, we believe that the best answer to any design problem, however complex, is always the “simplest” solution. BEAUTY IS SIMPLICITY. Every opportunity to participate in shaping the environment (whether micro – or mega -) must be seen as a new opportunity, a new challenge, and must be approached as such – significantly because in no two settings will the combination of competing factors be exactly identical. Extensionally, it is in the context of this approach that our stated philosophy finds diversity of expressions and continually enlarging dimension”.
